Dubbed Creole king of Mauritius, Sir Gaetan Duval, would have celebrated his 87 birthday to-day. Mauritian lawyer of high reputation and politician noted for his showy style and an inclination for unpredictable swings toward the left or right, he has left his imprints on Mauritian history.
His son, leader of the opposition Xavier Duval and his grandson Adrien, welcomed the public yesterday at the villa he owned at Grand-Gaube during an open house day.
Sir Gaëtan Duval served in the Mauritius Legislative Assembly and held numerous cabinet posts, was twice vice-prime minister and is ascribed with the development of the tourist industry.
