Air Mauritius has a modern fleet and and its pilots are highly paid
The board of directors of the national carrier approved yesterday the dismissal of the three pilots and considers that their sick leave was part of a concerted action which led to the grounding of four international flights Thursday evening.
In a communiqué, Air Mauritius justifies the dismissal by the huge loss it incurred and the negative impact the cancellation of flights has had on the national carrier’s image.
Pilots employed by Air Mauritius are paid a tax free salary of around half a million rupees. Salaries are paid en euro currency.
It is considered that Air Mauritius pilot’s are handsomely paid for their services.
It is believed that their concerted sick leave has been prompted by amendments in the employment contract of new pilots.
Two of the pilots fired are South-African nationals and the third is a Mauritian according to a non authorised source.
