Online registration of Mauritian workers eligible for negative income tax (NIT) starts to-days. The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) will set up centres to help workers earning Rs 9 900 or less to fill in their form for the payment of a sum of money to supplement their salaries.

In economics, a negative income tax (NIT) is a progressive income tax system where people earning below a certain amount receive supplemental pay from the government instead of paying taxes to the government.

In Mauritius, those earning Rs 9 900 or less will receive a sum of money from the MRA to supplement their salaries. See our picture of a chart of workers qualified for NIT prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (Mauritius)
